Withdrawals

How do I withdraw my child, and what is the difference between voluntary and involuntary withdrawal?

LTS recognizes two types of withdrawals from school: voluntary and involuntary.

Voluntary Withdrawal

A student under 18 years of age may be withdrawn from school only by a parent. LTS requests notice from the parent at least three days in advance so that records and documents may be prepared. Parents may obtain a withdrawal form from the main office. The parent shall also provide the name of the new school in which the student will be enrolled and must sign the withdrawal request to document that the student will continue to be enrolled in a school as required by compulsory attendance laws.

Withdrawing students and parents are expected to

  • return all textbooks and checked-out materials and equipment;
  • complete any make-up work assigned;
  • pay any unpaid balance for student fees, if any; and
  • sign a release of student records.

In all cases, withdrawal forms must be appropriately completed and signed before withdrawal is complete.

Involuntary Withdrawal

LTS may initiate withdrawal of a student under the age of 19 for nonattendance if

  • the student has been absent 10 consecutive school days, and
  • repeated efforts by the school to locate the student have been unsuccessful.
