Five Steps of Discipline for Grades K–2 and 3–5

LTS maintains a highly structured, safe and orderly environment. Respect and courtesy are expected at all times. In an effort to redirect inappropriate behavior, when the teacher has exhausted all positive discipline strategies, the following steps will be taken.

Steps of Discipline (Grades K–2)

Step 1 – Student is given a verbal warning using reflective questions.

Step 2 – Student is moved to the back of the classroom for the duration of the lesson to the thinking chair for reflection OR misses five minutes of recess. Parent/guardian will be notified by the teacher.

Step 3 – Student is returned to the back of the classroom for an extended period of time OR misses 10 minutes of recess. Parent/guardian will be notified by the teacher.

Step 4 – Student is sent to a buddy classroom to complete a “Think Sheet” activity OR misses entire recess. Parent/guardian will be notified by the teacher.

Step 5 – Student is sent to the administrative office. Campus administrator will conference with the student, and the parent/guardian will be notified by the administrator.

Steps of Discipline (Grades 3–5)

Step 1 – Student is given a verbal warning.

Step 2 – Student is moved to the back of the classroom for the duration of the lesson to complete a reflection sheet OR misses five minutes of recess. Parent/guardian will be notified by the teacher.

Step 3 – Student is engaged in a restorative discipline practice as an opportunity to learn about consequences of their actions, develop empathy for others, and learn methods to make amends in a way that strengthens interpersonal bonds.

Step 4 – Student is sent to an alternative classroom to complete a “Reflection Sheet” OR misses entire recess. Parent/guardian will be notified by the teacher.

Step 5 – Student is sent to the administrative office. Campus administrator will conference with the student, and the parent/guardian will be notified by the administrator.
