Dress and Grooming
What should my child wear to school, and what rules apply to uniforms, grooming, shoes, hair, and special dress days?
The school’s dress and grooming standards are designed to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, minimize safety hazards, and provide dress and grooming standards that offer flexibility for the parent and student. Students must come to school clean and neatly groomed and wearing clothing that will not be a health or safety hazard to the student or others and that will not distract from the educational atmosphere of the school. Students are required to arrive in proper attire every day.
As authorized by state law and the LTS charter, students are required to wear uniforms to school. Parents must provide their student(s) with the required uniform, except in the case of educationally disadvantaged students, as provided in the Texas Education Code. LTS may provide a uniform for economically disadvantaged students. A request for school assistance for purchasing uniforms must be made in writing to the principal or designee and include evidence of the inability to pay. Further details are available in the principal’s office.
Students who do not follow the school’s guidelines for personal attire and appearance may be subject to discipline under the Student Code of Conduct. Additionally, a parent may be contacted to bring an acceptable change of clothing to school, and the student may be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day until a change of clothes is brought to the school.
LTS students are expected to dress in a manner that conveys respect for their learning community and communicates a message of personal confidence and pride.
To attend class, all students must be in compliance with all aspects of the student uniform dress code policy, including the requirements related to hair. It is the responsibility of both parents and students to understand and comply with all student uniform dress code standards.
Legacy teachers ensure that students are in compliance with the mandatory uniform dress code daily. When instances of noncompliance are identified, the school will notify parents. Parents may be required to bring appropriate clothing or footwear to the school for their child(ren).
Hair Code Policy
Hair should not obstruct student vision, and it may not interfere with or become a distraction to the learning environment. Extreme hair designs and unnatural hair colors are not permitted. Examples of extreme hair designs that are prohibited are mohawks of any length and shaved designs. LTS does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, color, or national origin in its administration of this hair grooming policy.

Legacy Spirit Days Dress Policy
Every Friday is Legacy Spirit Day. This will be an opportunity for students and staff to display their school spirit and strengthen their school community. Legacy Spirit Days dress for students will be as follows:
Students may elect to wear spirit T-shirts or school sports jerseys (ordered through the Legacy site) in lieu of their usual polos on Legacy Spirit Day. Expectations for pants, skirts, jumpers, shoes, outerwear, jewelry, cosmetics, and hair will remain the same as a normal school day, with the exception that students may wear athletic shorts or athletic pants (not yoga pants) that are in solid dress code colors (red, maroon, white, navy blue, blue denim, or khaki) or black. Students not wearing spirit T-shirts will be expected to wear their regular uniform polos.
Legacy Dress Down Days
On the last day of each quarter, students will be allowed to dress down and wear clothes of their choice instead of school uniforms or spirit wear. Clothing must continue to be modest and appropriate and fall within the dress code guidelines for fit, length, and neatness.
Legacy Spirit Week
Spirit Week is a week-long themed event held toward the end of the school year. Students and parents will be able to vote on the theme days for the week. The top five choices will become the themes for each day of Spirit Week.
Field Day Dress Policy
Students may wear athletic wear for Field Day. Dress-out clothes and footwear need to be modest and appropriate and fall within dress code guidelines for fit, length, and neatness. Decisions on appropriateness are at the administration’s discretion.
Picture Days
LTS provides opportunities for students to have their picture taken twice a year. Fall pictures are used in the school yearbook each year, and students are expected to remain in school uniform.
Spring pictures include eighth-grade promotion and kindergarten graduation pictures. Students may either wear their school uniform or dress up for school pictures. Dress-up clothing and footwear need to be modest and appropriate and fall within the dress code guidelines for fit, length, and neatness.
Specific guidelines for spring picture days:
- Shirts must have collars.
- Blouses must be sleeved and opaque,
- Shoes must be flat, closed-toe (no heeled dress shoes).
- Hair must follow dress code policy.
LTS will periodically review its dress and grooming policies and make changes as needed.
While it is inevitable that there will be differences of opinion as to the appropriateness of dress and grooming, and/or determining whether a student’s attire is disruptive or distracting to the educational environment of the school, the final determination will be made by the principal or designee. Any student who does not comply with the dress code will be removed from the regular school setting until the student complies with this code.
